Short answer: You can decorate a Halloween porch with no outdoor outlet by using battery-powered lights for the glow and no-power hanging decorations for shape. From PorchHaunt, that means the Flashing Peeping Eyes (AAA batteries), the 47 in Hanging Light-up Ghost (3 AA batteries) and the Hanging Grim Reapers (no power). Batteries are not included. Our Ghost Band inflatable needs an outlet, so leave it out.
What works without an outlet
- Flashing Peeping Eyes (3 pairs). Green, orange and magenta. They run on AAA batteries (not included). Dark activation mode turns them on in the dark and off in daylight, and there is also a steady-on mode. Each pair is about 5 x 3.75 x 2.5 in.
- 47 in Hanging Light-up Ghost. White LED light, powered by 3 AA batteries (not included). One button controls it: press once for a 6 hour timer that repeats every day, twice for always on, and three times for off.
- Hanging Grim Reapers (3 pack). Green, black and orange, with no power at all. The black reaper is about 47 in and the green and orange reapers are about 35 in each. Each one has a hanging rope attached, and the arms bend.

Step by step
- Look from the sidewalk after dark. Note the darkest spots between the street and the door. Lights stand out most there.
- Low layer. Put the peeping eyes in bushes beside the path or in a dark window facing the street. For dark activation mode, pick spots that get some daylight, so the sensor can switch them off during the day.
- Glow layer. Hang the 47 in ghost from the porch ceiling or a sturdy branch, away from bright porch lights. In timer mode the light comes on when you press the button, stays on for 6 hours, then turns off for 18 hours and repeats. Press it at the time you want it to light each evening.
- Shape layer. Hang the reapers across a beam or spread them out: over the door, in a tree, at a porch corner. The black reaper is the longest at about 47 in, so give it the most room.
- Batteries. Keep spare AAA and AA batteries on hand. The supplier notes that the ghost's battery compartment may need a screwdriver to open.
Hooks and hanging points

What about running a cord from inside?
A cord run through a door or window can get pinched and can become a trip hazard. If you do run power outside for any decoration, use an extension cord rated for outdoor use and keep it out of walkways. Battery and no-power pieces avoid the question entirely.
